I am often asked, "What is the best diaper?" and see this question on a lot of forums as well. Often, someone will post her choice, only to be followed with a lot of other choices or reasons why her choice is not good at all. As common a question as this is, I really hate to answer it.
The truth is, everyone needs something different from a diaper. Some people need snaps. Others need the ease and adjustability of velcro. Some babies get irritated from fleece or suedecloth, others need stay-dry fabrics. A diaper that fits a slim child beautifully will leave red marks on a chunky baby's thighs.
Does this mean you should never elicit other people's opinions? I don't recommend this. People will have lots of opinions about what makes a great diaper, and it's important to consider several points of view. Get opinions, but take them with a grain of salt. Put the most stock in those who have similar needs/priorities in cloth diapering and those who have children with similar body types. These people will be able to help you the most. Remember that for every person who recommends a diaper, there will be someone else who hates it.
Ultimately, the best diaper is the one that works for you. When you find it, you'll be able to share your opinion on the "best" diaper around :)
